Now I've been freelancing for about 3 months now, my freelance brand is entitled PRomisingMedia. I am still in school completing my masters, as well as completing an assistantship in the Marketing and Communications office, so my time is well spent between those. But here's what my typical off day from the office looks like.
8:00 Check emails and respond accordingly. *Best to get this out of the way early or else they will only pile up.
9:00 Follow up on every clients social media account. Check for new followers and follow back accordingly. Check for new likes. Check and respond to all comments and mentions. I do this every few hours even on my office days, but have more time to dedicate on off days.
10:00 Call & follow up with clients. Update them on their social media networks and what their following looks like. Update them on their Klout scores, and find out the next steps we need to take for success. This can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes per client or it can take over an hour. This block of time has to be used accordingly because its crucial to the brand of your client.
12:00 Search each clients name in the various social media networks and even in Google to see what people are talking about. Search any hashtags that can possibly be related to them, and if necessary crisis control
2:00 Make relevant, content heavy, and conversational posts based on the client and social media type.
4:00 Write. Write my blog, work on posts for clients who ask for blog posts, work on ghost writing, and write articles for the magazine that I write for.
5:00 Conduct searches on my industry. Find out what people are talking about and why they are talking about it. This has to be done for each clients industry whether they are music, comedy, art, motivation etc. I have to stay current. I have to know why it is being talked about.
I love public relations. I love everything about it. I love my business. I love my clients. A day in the life of something that you love is a day you don't ever mind living. Do you have any questions about freelancing or public relations?
